Dwayne L. Knop, 98, formerly of Omaha, died Thursday, April 9, 2020, at Allen Place in Atlantic.
He was born on December 27, 1921, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Emil John and Vina L. (Feldman) Knop. Dwayne grew up in southwest Iowa and graduated from Hancock High School in 1938. Following graduation, he helped on the family farm, and later moved to Omaha, Nebraska, to begin work at Kiewit Construction; helping build the Kiewit Tower. In the years to follow he started his career at Milder Oil; retiring in 1983 at the age of 62. Dwyane was united in marriage to Rosie Greenhagen-Knop (Rivera) in 1962. In 2019, he moved to Peace Haven in Walnut and then resided a short time at Allen Place in Atlantic.
Dwayne enjoyed reading, watching westerns, and a good game of checkers with the grandkids. He also looked forward to getting together with fellow Jehovah’s Witnesses at the Kingdom Hall in Omaha.
Dwayne is survived by his brother, Floyd (Doreen) Knop of Atlantic; step-son, Johnny; grandchildren, Krystal, Sean and Patrice; great-grandchildren, Elijah and Charlotte; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosie Knop, sisters, Maxine Knop and Darlene Edmundson; and a daughter and her husband, Patti (Emmanuel).
Open visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Thursday, April 16th at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2020, at the Atlantic Cemetery. A recording of the service will be posted to Dwayne’s obituary on our website following the service due to the state’s mandate of no more than 10 people allowed to gather.
