Doreen Knop, 88, of Atlantic, Iowa died on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, in Omaha.
The daughter of Theodore John Henry and Dorothy Edith (Hough) Brockman, she was born August 3, 1932, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Growing up on an Iowa farm, she milked cows both before and after walking to school. From the beginning to the end of every day, she was always a hard worker. Doreen graduated from High School in Oakland, Iowa and was later united in marriage to Floyd Emil Knop on December 31, 1955.
Doreen’s family fondly recalls what a good cook she was, how she enjoyed canning and spending time in the garden. But Doreen was ultimately a dedicated mother who instilled a strong work ethic in her family. Her love ran deep for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as evidenced by her time spent following them to area sporting events and countless activities.
Doreen loved to go to area auctions to fill her antique shop in Walnut, Iowa, with treasures for other enthusiasts to discover. In her spare time, she enjoyed her ladies’ afternoon card groups and traveling with Floyd on a number of bus tours to Canada, South Dakota, Florida, Texas and other memorable trips. Regardless of the destination and time of year, Doreen’s vehicle always seemed to stop for another iced coffee!
Doreen is survived by her husband, Floyd of Atlantic; three children: Larry (Lois) Knop of Hancock and their children, Troy, Derek (Amy), Brock (Jennifer) and Keith (Rachel); Pam (Neal) Schirm of Walnut and their children, Heather (Lenny), Mindy (Jordan) and Tyler (Ashley); and Scott (Cindy) Knop of Walnut and their children, Kylee (Justin) Britnee (Jamie), and Garret (Danielle); brothers, Bud Brockman of Neola, Iowa and Darwin (Viola) Brockman of Hancock; and many beloved great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law, Patricia Brockman; brother-in-law, Dwayne; and sister-in-law, Jolene Edmundson.
