Gladys M. Kluever
Gladys M. Kluever, 96, of Atlantic, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.The daughter of Nicholas C. and Nellie Wilds Kluever, Gladys was born June 12, 1904 near Anita and grew up South of Atlantic. Gladys graduated from Atlantic High School in 1922, University of Northern Iowa in 1928 and did graduate work at universities in Iowa, Wyoming, and Colorado. She was a member of the first Baptist Church for more than 70 years, was a fifth-year member of Golden Rule Chapter Order of the Eastern star, Nishna Valley Retired Teachers, Iowa Retired Teacher's, National Retired Teachers Association, Williams Club of Atlantic, and Kappa Delta Pi National Scholastic Fraternity. Gladys taught rural school in Cass County for two years, in Watertown, South Dakota for five years and taught mathematics and Latin for 36 years in the Atlantic High School. She was active in church and community work and traveled extensively.Surviving are two sisters in-law, Genevieve Kluever of West Des Moines and Ruth Kluever Toothman of West Des Moines; nieces and nephews, Dr. Gary Kluever and his wife Sherry of Nevada, Connie Kluever of New York City, Nick Kluever and his wife Charlotte of Coon Rapids, Ned Kluever and his wife Denise of Norwalk, Sue Wattenbarger and her husband Gary of Papillion, Nebraska, Mary Ellen Kluever Lowder of Atlantic, Vonda Johnson and her husband Don of Brayton, Florida, Beverly Carey of Urbandale; and a number of grand nieces and nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Carl Kluever, Eugène Kluever and J. Howard Kluever; and a sister, Doris Peterson.Funeral InformationServices for Gladys will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at 10:00 at the First Baptist Church in Atlantic with Reverend Chuck Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
