Daniel Klevos

Dan Klevos, 79, long time resident of Atlantic, passed away at his home on Friday, April 11, 2014.

Daniel M. Klevos was born on August 17, 1934, in Rutland, Iowa, the son of Norris and Evelyn (Cook) Klevos. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1952, and following graduation Dan enlisted in the United States Army. In 1959, he graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Engineer Certification.

He worked for Andrew’s Prestressed Concrete Plant in Clear Lake for 5 years. Dan worked as a Civil Engineer, in the steel building division, for Henningsen Construction for 35 years. He took pride is his work at Henningsen’s, and retired in 2000.

On November 20, 1972, he married Karen DeWitt in Nassau Bahamas. Dan was an avid hunter and loved golfing and playing cards with friends and family. He also enjoyed fishing and always wished he could fish as well as Karen did.

Dan is survived by his wife, Karen Klevos of Atlantic; sons, Dan, Chris, and Tim Klevos all of Arizona, and Doug (Monica) DeWitt of Glendale, Arizona; grandsons, Dustin, Michael and Wyatt; brother, Paul (Susan) Klevos of Humboldt, Iowa; sisters, Mavis (Lyle) Hanson of Dubuque, Iowa, and Cynthia (Frank) Kawai of Indio, California; and brother-in-law, Jack Bair and his daughter, Kinsey of Connecticut.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Norris and Evelyn Klevos; son, Michael DeWitt; sister, Vergene Krahn; and parents-in-law, Mildred and Jerry Bair.

There will be a Celebration of Life held, with family present, for friends and relatives at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club from 12:00 to 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. Pastor Chuck Smith, of Atlantic, will offer words of remembrance at 1:00 P.M.

Memorials may be made to the family with designation at a later date.
