Mildred King

Mildred King, 94, life long resident of Atlantic, died on Saturday evening May 26, 2007 at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.Mildred was born the daughter of Clarence and Lela (Johnson) Minor on July 2, 1912 in Atlantic. She grew up in Atlantic and graduated with the Atlantic High School Class of 1932. Mildred married Loren King in Audubon on December 20, 1933. The couple lived in Atlantic where Loren ran King Sporting Goods while they raised a family of three children. They celebrated their 73rd year of marriage at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center where Mildred moved to in October of 2006. Through the years, Mildred owned and rented a number of apartments and homes in Atlantic. Her hobby was collecting and refinishing antiques. She especially enjoyed refurbishing antique dolls and sewing their clothing. In recent years she became a "doll lady" in her store on Poplar Street. Her beautiful collection will be remembered, and the wealth of information she so willingly shared. She especially loved her family and her Lord, and was vibrant about telling of her faith. Her husband Loren relates of Mildred, "She was the best gal I ever knew."Mildred is survived by Loren; her son Ron King of Atlantic; Janet King of Atlantic; sons-in-law Terry Ray of Okoboji, IA; Larry Ray of Spencer, IA; grandchildren, Michael King of Phoenix, AZ, Rhonda Walker and her husband Bill of Exira, IA, Karen Book and her husband Jim of Adel, IA, Brett Ray and wife Shan of Milford, IA, Dan Ray and wife Laurie of Spencer, IA, Robin Ray of Eden Prairie, MN, Joy Grandgeorge and husband Keith of Clarion, IA, Holly Anderson and husband Randy of Grand Island, NE, Matthew Ray and his wife Anika of Aurora, CO, Christian Ray of Denver, CO, Lori Ray of Lincoln, NE, and Shari Ray of Edmond, OK; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and nieces, nephews and friends.
