Keith Vernon Reagles, 81, of Marne, Iowa died Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at a nursing home in St. Joseph, Missouri.
The son of Keith Vernon and Joie Ellen (Ness) Reagles, he was born August 2, 1941, in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. In his early years he grew up around the Des Moines area where he attended Van Daily Acres and Country School. In sixth grade he came to Atlantic and was place in Lincoln school only to be relocated to the Jackson school due to his address one week later. As a teenager, he worked for Goold Construction. He eventually received his GED while in the United States Air Force and received two years of college education as well.
Keith was a career Air Force man. Serving our country for 24 years he was stationed in Offutt Air Force Base for five years, Okinawa for a year and a half, Thailand for three years, England on two bases for a combined five years and two short stays in Korea. He took advantage of the wonderful opportunities his time abroad afforded him and saw most of Asia, England and a majority of the European countries that were open at that time. A particularly memorable journey was on a train inside the Matterhorn; some of the views from there reminded him of his childhood in Wisconsin. He retired from Offutt in the early 80’s. After his service in the military, Keith returned to Atlantic and enjoyed landscaping for McMurphy’s, being a lab tech for Henningsen’s Construction, and other positions that were of interest.
Keith was a good friend to many. One life-long friend in particular was Larry Lane. After Larry passed away Keith would travel to help out Larry’s widow Carmen Lane for over seven years. After driving to Lawrence many times, to take care of projects for her, he eventually married Carmen on January 6, 2001, in the chapel near Red Rock Theater in Golden, Colorado. Shortly thereafter, she joined him in Marne, Iowa, where they made their home and began their many years together. Traveling most of the 50 states as well as other memorable sightseeing excursions, they enjoyed that time immensely. Keith himself saw 48 of the states including Alaska and Hawaii. Together, they were members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic.
Keith is survived by his brother, Jamie (Carol) Razor of St. Joseph, Missouri; sister, Sue (Bill) Wiedemeyer of Des Moines, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joie Razor; wife, Carmen Lee (Lane) Reagles; sisters, Karen Wiedemeyer and Amber Roeds; and brother, Rolland Razor.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2023, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Interment, with military honors by the Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard, will be held in the Atlantic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Marne Volunteer Fire Department.
