Kathy Caudill, 74, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Friday, July 11, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family.
The daughter of Jess Franklin and Katherine Louise (Gibson) Caudill, Kathy grew up in Ashland and Louisa, Kentucky, with her siblings, Jesse Grant “Bud”, Paul, Tony, Brian, Phillip and Nanza Caudill and attended Boyd County High School. Through her life, she travelled up and down the East Coast and finally settled in Iowa, in October of 2018. Her clever wit and quick tongue made her entertaining as a Tarot Card reader.
Kathy considered raising her kids her finest accomplishment and later, spending time with the grandkids was her delight! She loved to cook and bake things to tempt their tastebuds! Their favorites were her meatloaf, meatballs, Pistachio cake and her crowning offering—Banana Split Cake! She guarded that last recipe like Fort Knox, taking it with her in her passing. She was as blunt and honest as could be and would say she didn’t lie, but it was well known that she might not tell the whole truth if it meant she could cover for her grandbabies. . . it has since been admitted that sometimes she would, in fact, lie through her teeth on their behalf.
In her spare time, she watched The Walking Dead, actually, she had it running 24/7. . . and if someone switched the channel, she was on them instantly to put it back. Vegas was her place for fun and her family was able to take her out there, one more time, just recently.
Kathy is survived by her two sons, Christopher Caudill of Ashland, KY and Jesse (Sierra) Caudill of Atlantic; her grandchildren, Lee, Veronice, Caleb, Hunter, Edward, Bryan and Dustin; siblings, Phillip (Norma) Caudill and Tony (Sandy) Caudill, both of Louisa, KY, Brian (Connie) Caudill of Crete, Nebraska, and Phoebe “Nanza” (Ronnie) Bush of Barboursville, WV ; and beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Paul and Jesse Grant “Bud” Caudill; sister, Brenda Caudill, and granddaughter, Vicky Caudill.
No services are planned at this time.
Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.
