Judy Baier

Judy Baier, 78, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Atlantic Specialty Care.

Judith Marlene was born on December 14, 1945, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Dale Frank and Dorothy May (Peterson) Will.  Judy grew up on a farm outside of Anita, Iowa and attended Anita Community Schools.  Many of her days were spent helping with morning chores and then off to work at Will's Cafe.

Judy married Harvey Williamson, and welcomed son, Kevin.  On October 4, 1978, she was united in marriage to Ricky Baier at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic, later welcoming a daughter, Brenda.

She worked at Atlantic Bottling, Atlantic Impressions, later called DeLong’s, and retired from housekeeping at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.  Judy was blessed during her working years to take time away to raise her children.

Judy and Ricky were a great team in all they did!  They enjoyed time together fishing and working in the garden, canning countless jars of tomatoes and green beans through the years.  Judy's baking skills were top notch and when you asked her kids what her specialty was, they were quick to respond with, “Her zucchini bread and poppy seed bread.”  Could the reason she was so good at baking be that she had a sweet tooth herself, Danishes and ice cream being favorites?  Judy meticulously cared for her flower beds and was an avid sewer from patching the kids clothes to her tea towels and towel dresses, there wasn’t anything she couldn’t do.  She loved dogs, and greatly missed her beloved dachshund, Biscuit.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic and was active in various women’s circles through the years.  Judy had lived at 800 Chestnut for over 10 years and looked forward to gathering with other residents for coffee and monthly potlucks.

Family was everything to her and she cherished the times they would gather, this time usually including a few games of cards.  Judy wasn’t shy to say that her kids and grandkids is what she lived for and they weren’t shy to tell you how awesome they thought she was!

Judy’s big and caring heart will be missed by everyone she knew including her son, Kevin (Denise) Williamson of Greenfield, MO; daughter, Brenda (Joshua) Young of Council Bluffs, IA; grandsons, Cole and Braxton Williamson and Braden and Brantley Young; half-sister, Madonna (Larry) Nisson of Atlantic, IA; brothers-in-law, Gary (Berniece) Baier of Atlantic, IA and Kevin (Martha) Baier of Lewis, IA; sister-in-law, Lauri (Robert) Sampson of Atlantic, IA; aunts, Betty (Harry) Knight and Clara Peterson, all of Atlantic, IA; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Dorothy Will; parents-in-law, William “Bill” and Erma (Fowble) Baier; maternal grandparents, Nels and Edna Peterson; paternal grandparents, Frank and Pearl Will; husband, Ricky Baier; sister, Shirley Will; a sister in infancy; brother-in-law, Junior Baier; and nephew, Nicholas Baier.

A time to greet the family will begin at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 8th followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic.  Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.  The family invites you to join them following the service at the cemetery for lunch and a time of visitation in the fellowship hall.
