Josie Curtis

Josie M. Curtis, 98, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Heritage House in Atlantic.

Josie Mae Wooley was born September 5, 1925, in Griswold, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Hyla (Vedane) Wooley.  She was a member of the band while attending Griswold High School.  On December 31, 1953, she married Eugene “Gene” D. Curtis and they celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2004.  They lived in Washington, Iowa, for 28 years before moving to Lakeview, Arkansas where they lived 10 years. They later moved back to Atlantic, Iowa, to be closer to family and friends. After Gene passed away in 2005, Josie moved to Brookridge at Heritage House which was home for the last 18 years.  

Josie is survived by her son, Russell (Julie) Curtis of Elgin, IA and their family including four children, David (Heather) Curtis, and their son, Aden, Chad (Molly) Curtis and their children, Joshua and Katelyn, Kara Hugger and her children, Nalani and Miles, and Jonathon Curtis; daughter-in-law (wife of the late, Donald Curtis), Karen Curtis of Ames, Iowa and their family including two sons, Gene (Ann) Curtis and their daughter, Caitlin and Greg (Crystal) Curtis and their children, Cayla and Grant; niece, Judy Borkowski; and nephew, Royce (Lynn) Curtis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Hyla Wooley; husband, Gene Curtis; son, Donald Curtis; sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia (Willard) Rothe, Dorothy (Bill) Bode, and Helen (Lee) Landon; niece, Cheryl Landon; nephew, Larry Bode; nephew-in-law, Lorrell Borkowski; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob (Dorothy Curtis - Ayers) Curtis.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 13th at Roland Funeral Home followed by a Graveside Memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at the Atlantic Cemetery.
