Edith Ann Johnston
Edith Ann Johnston, 78, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at the Bergen Mercy Hospital.Edith Ann was born to Edward and Edith Mullins on August 16, 1924 in Atlantic, Iowa. She grew up in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1942. She went to Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri for four years majoring in art. Edith Ann married Merle Johnston on May 23, 1948 and from this union four children were born. Edith Ann was one of the girls that was a lifeguard at the Sunnyside pool during World War II. She was also a cub scout mother and scout mother for her boys. She was an officer of the Coast Guard Auxiliary from 1973 through 1998. She was awarded a life-saving commendation for saving two lives on the Missouri River. She retired at the rank of lieutenant.She is survived by her husband Merle; three sons Rock and his wife Cynthia, Robin and his wife Kelly and Randy and his wife Donna, all of Omaha; nine grandchildren, Heather and her husband Jason Groves, Rose and her fiancé John Thompson, Jennifer, Nicole, James, Rachel, Denise, Cheryl and David; one brother Edward Mullins and his wife Carolyn of Arvada, Colorado; one sister Marjorie Sothman of Griswold, Iowa and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.Edith Ann is preceded in death by her parents Edward and Edith Mullins; a daughter Jerree Ward; and a brother-in-law Vergal Sothman. Edith now resides in Puerto Vallarta in the sky.Funeral InformationServices for Edith Ann will be held Monday, July 7, 2003, at 2:00 PM at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with Reverend Don Seeger of the First United Presbyterian Church is officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa.
