Ryan Dean 'Tator' Johnson of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning, December 11, 2011, at the age of 51 years.
Ryan was the son of Gail LeRoy and Marie Christine (Pedersen) Johnson of Atlantic. He was born on September 29, 1960 in Atlantic where he continued to live. Ryan was baptized at the Brayton Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He completed his education when he graduated from the Atlantic High School. Ryan enlisted in the Army where he served for two years. After his discharge, he went into construction work where he was employed as a steel worker. For the past two years, he worked at the Nishna Hills Golf Course as a grounds keeper. Ryan enjoyed going for walks, surfing the web and getting together with friends. His favorite things were watching sports on TV, especially the Kansas City Chiefs and the St. Louis Cardinals, spoiling Joni's dog, Breezy, and cheering for his great niece at swimming meets. Ryan always looked forward to the holidays when the family would get together. He was always friendly and had a smile for everyone. Ryan was always willing to help anyone who needed his help.
He is survived by his parents, Gail and Marie Johnson of Atlantic; sisters, Denise (Curtis) Bradley of Corning, IA, Debbie (Jerry) Martin of Atlantic and Julie (Jay) Muhe of Yuma, Arizona; nephews, Matt Bradley of Prescott, IA, and Nate (Brooke) Bradley of Muscatine, IA; nieces, Katrina (Erik) Sonntag of Atlantic, IA and Mikaela Bradley of Eagle Grove, IA; great-nieces, Brienna Steffens of Atlantic and Avery Bradley of Muscatine, IA; aunt, Ethel (Lynn) Williamson of Reno, NV and uncle, James Johnson of Brayton. IA; several cousins and special friend Joni Bieker.
Ryan is preceded in death by his grandparents, Emery and Edna Johnson and Chris and Laura Pedersen.
There will be an open visitation at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic from 1:00 - 5:30 on Tuesday, December 13 and from 8:00 to 5:00 on Wednesday, December 14. The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 to meet with friends. Services for Ryan are scheduled for Thursday, December 15, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Grant VanLishout officiating.
