Kenneth Arland Johnson
Kenneth Arland Johnson, age 80, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, March 21, 2013, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in Atlantic.
Kenneth was born on September 18, 1932 in Creighton, Nebraska, to Raymond and Myrtle Witte Johnson. He attended school in Creighton graduating from the Creighton High School in 1948. On May 21, 1955, Kenneth was united in marriage to Charlene Ann Moore in Creighton. He had started farming west of Creighton but after his marriage, the couple moved to a farm north of Waverly, IA for eight years. After his illness, he managed a feed and grain elevator by Iowa City. They later moved to Walnut and then to Atlantic in 1997.
His main interest was cultivating his large garden plot, and when he was unable to do so any longer, he filled numerous containers with vegetables and flowers. In addition to his garden, Kenneth also enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Atlantic. He will be remembered as a man who never met a stranger.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Charlene; a son, Mark Johnson of Atlantic; a daughter, Elizabeth (Ira) Miller and children, Ira Jr., Corey, Joseph and Amy of Washington, IA; son, Arden (Carol) Johnson and children, Samuel, Andrew, Lauren of Nobleville, IN; son, Nathan Johnson of Atlantic; and daughter, Sara Johnson of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Arlene (Joe) Wold of New Braunfel, TX and Lola Dillion of Fort Dodge, IA; sisters-in-law, Jean Ehrenberg and Donna Doerr of Creighton, IA; brothers-in-law, Eldon (Doris) Rohwer of Piedmont, OK and Allen (Janelle) Rohwer of Lincoln, NE; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jesse & Alice Toombe of Thornberg, VA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Arthur and Bessie (Ober) Rohwer; son, Christopher Johnson; brothers-in-law, Blayne Doerr, Glen Ehrenberg and Ken Dillion
Services for Kenneth will be held on Saturday, March 23, at the First Church of Christ in Atlantic at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Dale Kesterson officiating. The family visitation will be held on Friday evening, March 22, at the Roland Funeral Home from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. with an open visitation on Friday from 8:00 until 5:00. The interment will be at the Atlantic Cemetery after the funeral and a luncheon will be held afterward with relatives and friends invited to attend.
