Obituary for Harold Charles Johnson

HAROLD C. JOHNSON

Harold Charles Johnson, 92, longtime area farmer passed away Sunday morning, January 27, 2013 at Heritage House in Atlantic. He was born May 22, 1920 to Leland and Alta (Mathis) Johnson on a farm west of Griswold.
Harold was raised in the Griswold and Lewis areas, graduated from Lewis High School in 1938 and began farming with his father. On December 29, 1946, he married Marjorie Hofmeister and they moved south of Lewis, where they farmed until 2003. They continued to live there until moving to Heritage House in February 2009. Harold was a member of the Lewis UCM Church, where he was a choir member for over 40 years and served on many committees. His interests included farming, traveling, music, and John Deere tractors and he enjoyed Marjorie’s wonderful cooking, as well as spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Marjorie of Atlantic; 4 daughters, Linda (Tony) Finnerty of Burnsville, MN, Barbara Bakhit of Omaha, Kathy (Rich) Govig of Lewis and Beth (Randy) Zimmerman of Indianola; 10 grandchildren: Michael and Robert Finnerty, Al (friend Amy Poggendorf) Bakhit, Abe (Katie) Bakhit, Jr., Rachel (Kedron) Bardwell, Melanie (Clayton) Muller, Ryan (Tiffany) Govig, Stasia Bakhit, Jabriel (Meagan) Bakhit, and Brooke Zimmerman; 8 great-grandchildren: Lilly and Jonah Bakhit, Micah and Eli Bardwell, Lauren and Meredith Muller, Kyler and Kale Govig; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Carol Johnson of Brazil, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Abe Bakhit Sr., sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Frank Hofmeister and brother and sister-in-law, Marion and Margery Johnson.
