Gayle Rosalie Johnson (Johnson)
Gayle Johnson passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2004, at the Colonial Manor in Anita.
She was born in Guthrie County on a farm north of Adair, Iowa, on March 7, 1913 to John Raymond and Lillie Irene Rockhotz Johnson. Gayle, with her family, later moved to the town of Adair where she attended school. In 1932, after graduating from high school, Gayle and her family moved to Anita and then to Atlantic in 1941. She began work in Atlantic as a dental assistant for Dr. Allender until 1949. At that time, she became employed at the soil conservation district office in Atlantic and worked there until her retirement in 1978.
Gayle was a long time member of the Atlantic First United Methodist Church and belonged to the UMW and taught Sunday school for many years. Gayle kept busy with her church, writing letters, and visiting with family and friends. She was affectionately referred to as Auntie Gayle by her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by sisters-in-law, Agnes Johnson of Anita and Marie Johnson of Storm Lake; a niece, Marjorie Gordon of Houston, TX; nephews, Larry Johnson and wife, Sue, of Indianola, IA, Gary Johnson and wife, Sherry, of Glenwood, IA, and Clifford Johnson and wife, Karen, of Fort Dodge, IA; eight great-nieces and nephews; seven great-great-nieces and nephews and numerous cousins and friends.
Gayle was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Glenn Raymond Johnson and Clyde Clifford Johnson, Sr.
