John Hofmeister, 74, of Lewis, Iowa, died Friday, April 18, 2025, at his farm east of Lewis, Iowa.
John Martin Hofmeister was born November 25, 1950, in Atlantic, Iowa to Frank Marker and Edith Lucille (Johnson) Hofmeister. He was raised on the farm with his four sisters, Jean, Judy, Karen and Donna. He began his successful farming career when his dad put him on the tractor at age three.
He attended elementary school in Lewis and graduated from Griswold High School in 1969. Shortly after, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division. John attained the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged on August 15, 1974. Upon returning, he settled into farming, full-time, with his father.
John was a member of the United Congregational Methodist Church in Lewis and served on many committees throughout the years. He was the third generation family member to serve on the Oakwood Cemetery Board.
He was united in marriage to JoAnn Marie Mosier-Clark on July 31, 1999. Together, they were foster parents for several years, providing a loving family environment.
He relished his role as a steward of the land and carried the family business to new heights. Though he achieved many outstanding attainments, he was always a quietly humble man – ever willing to lend a helping hand and extend his big heart to family, neighbors and many stray animals. . . cats to be specific. His hobbies, interests and accomplishments were all centered around farming, family and his faith. His gentle manner and comforting, calm presence will be missed by this world.
John is survived by his sisters, Jean (Ken) Lawton, Judy (Mike) Metzger, Karen (Chuck) Wilcoxon, and Donna (Steve) Green; father-in-law, Dick (Cookie) Mosier; brother-in-law, Jon Mosier; sister-in-law, Anne Mosier; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews; special cousins; extended family and good neighbors and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife JoAnn; his parents; sister, Nancy in infancy; mother-in-law, Janet Mosier; and brother-in-law, Dan Mosier.
Visitation with family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 27th, 2025, at Roland Funeral Service in Atlantic. Celebration of Life memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 28th, 2025, at United Congregational Methodist Church in Lewis. Pastor Jerry Neal will preside over the services. Full military rites will be presented by the Atlantic Color Guard at a private family burial.
