Joanne Pross

Joanne Pross, 81, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.

The daughter of Roland “Rollie” and Margaret Mae (Hoden) Baker, Joanne Lynn was born August 8, 1943, in Omaha, Nebraska.  After graduating from Atlantic High School in 1961, she was united in marriage to Frank Pross Jr. on August 12th, 1961. Together they were blessed with four children, Laurie, Timothy, Lisa and Daniel.

Her family and friends knew her as a humble, faithful Christian. She loved to share God’s word and was dedicated in reading her daily devotions. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and making prayer shawls. Her faith in God gave her the strength and courage to be the true warrior that she was throughout her cancer journey.

She worked in numerous customer service positions before starting at ALCO in the office as a bookkeeper, where she remained for 30 years. When ALCO closed, she went to Robinson Hardware to continue her career as a bookkeeper. Upon retirement, she had more time to enjoy her hobbies of sewing, quilting and crocheting.

She loved to read and sit outside on the deck enjoying family time. Her favorite television shows were faith-based programs and Walker Texas Ranger. Though she was often content at home, she also looked forward to seeing her coffee ladies who were dear to her heart.

She was well known for her special, unique smile and her laugh. She cherished her family and would “light up” when any of the grandchildren were around. One granddaughter recalls that “Grandma loved sassing my Grandpa Frank.” Getting the family together for holidays and celebrations was very special to her. Thanksgiving brought great joy to her because she made it a priority to bring the family together.

Joanne is survived by her husband, Frank Pross Jr; daughters, Laurie (Michael) Cooley, Lisa (William) Preeg; sons, Timothy (Ann) Pross, Daniel Pross; grandchildren, Lindsay (Drew) Downing, Leslie Herrick, Ethan Pross, Tony (Danielle) Pross, Ashley (Nick) Siepker, Megan (Mike) Andersen, Garret (Charisma) Pross, Austin (Corynn) Pross, Alex Pross, and Kelsey Pross; great-grandchildren, Grace, Knox, Jordin, Jaxon, Paxton, Hoyt, Evelynn, Aayla, Owen, MaKenna, Addisyn, Eleanor, Payton and Theo; brother, Larry (Mary Carol) Baker; sisters-in-law, Judy (Daryl) Andersen, Cheri Pross, Jackie Pross, and Judy Baker; a brother-in-law, Mike Pross, and an aunt, Mildred Rourick along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Margaret (Hoden) Baker; sister, Jeanne Weight; brother, Gary Baker.
