Obituary for William S. Jipsen

Retired farmer, Bill Jipsen, 85, passed away at the Griswold Care Center in Griswold, Iowa on Saturday, September 15, 2007. Bill was born the son of Henry and Gracie May (Link) Jipsen on May 13, 1922 west of Atlantic. He grew up and attended country schools west of Atlantic and at Lewis. Bill was married to Harriett Elaine Burnham in Atlantic, on March 16, 1952. The couple enjoyed raising two sons while they farmed in the Lewis and Griswold areas. He was a member of the Lewis United Congregational Methodist Church and was a longtime 4-H leader. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and anything to do with grandchildren or farming. Bill was a dedicated family man, enjoyed traveling to see the mountains and loved watching high school softball at Raymond Butt Field in Griswold. He thankfully was a cancer survivor. His family will meet friends at a visitation at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00. His funeral will be held at Rolands at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, September 18. Pastor Christine Tinker will officiate. A committal service will follow at the Atlantic Cemetery. Bill's family welcomes friends to join them for a luncheon at the Cass County Community Building in Atlantic. Survivors include Dorothy Baxter, his loving companion of ten years; his sons Dennis Jipsen and his wife Marilyn of Lewis and Wayne Jipsen and his wife Susan of Rifle, Colorado; grandchildren, Dawn and husband, Matt Freund of Lewis; Kevin Jipsen and his wife Amber of Griswold, and Kimberly and husband Ronnie Vaughn of Rothville, Missouri; step grandson Nathan Rendo and his wife Kristie of Waco, Texas; and great grandchildren, Lexi, Heather and Daniel Freund; Cole, Clayton and Cooper Jipsen; and Luke, Veronica and William Vaughn.
