Jerry Keenan, 66, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Gerald “Jerry” Allen Keenan was born on March 30, 1958, to Eugene and Eileen (Osborne) Keenan in Mankato, Minnesota. As a youngster, he enjoyed growing up with his three brothers, two sisters and many friends who taught him to hunt deer and pheasants, fish, play baseball and handle a deck of cards. He attended school in Mankato where he would graduate. Later, he attended college at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, where he earned a degree in accounting.
A few of Jerry’s friends introduced him to Theresa Ann Kenning while in Mankato. Jerry and Theresa later married on February 16, 1991, at St. Joseph the Worker, Catholic Church in Mankato.
Jerry was a hard working, versatile man who worked in a number of positions to provide for his family throughout his life. His easy going, kind hearted and welcoming demeanor was topped off with a sense of humor that would often light up every room he entered. He would have said his greatest success was raising his three children, Mike, Nick and Vanessa . . . and his expertise in making tasty potato soup and French toast. It’s been said that the kids could not have had a better role model.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa of Atlantic; daughter, Vanessa (Oran) Perkins of Atlantic; sons, Michael (Sesilla) Keenan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Nick (Claire) Keenan of Polk City, Iowa; grandchildren, Taylor, Tanner, Brayden, Madeline, Jordan and one on the way; and one great grandchild, Arthur Henry; three brothers, Ray Keenan of Mankato, Steve (Kim) Keenan of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Pat Keenan of Mankato; sisters, Pam (Bob) Homer of Mankato and Jeannie Keenan of Mankato; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Eileen Keenan and his sister-in-law, Jan Keenan.
