James Michael Howard

James Michael Howard, 34, was born January 19, 1990 in Omaha, Nebraska.  He passed away February 22, 2024 as the result of an automobile accident in Arizona.

In James’ younger years he loved being on the water at his paternal grandparent’s home in Storm Lake, Iowa; there were so many boating and jet ski adventures with his cousins!  He also relished time on his maternal grandparent’s farm where escapades and exploring abounded! The famous jungle gym that Grandpa Keith built was incredible. He especially enjoyed the many family gatherings when they would all go down to the bridge and throw rocks in the Middle River that ran through the property.  James cherished spending time with his grandparents and they were each special to his heart. 

In school, he was active in 4H, swim team, band, and musicals.  He had many main parts in the plays and did a phenomenal job.  He received the grand-champion award for his singing guinea pigs at the Cass County Fair.  He was a good saxophone player and especially liked jazz band.  James and his friends were avid Pokémon players and Jennifer would take them all to tournaments in Des Moines.  The kids often congregated at the Howards’ home (then Mom always knew where he was and who he was hanging around with).  

After high school, James attended the culinary arts program at Iowa Western Community College.  Throughout his adult life he held various jobs in the food industry.  He most recently resided in Ehrenberg, AZ and though circumstances kept them from being together, his son Xayne was the pride and joy of his life.

James is survived by his son, Xayne Michael Howard (he was so proud of his son); mother, Jennifer (Mick) Allen; father, Mike (Juli) Howard; maternal grandmother, Karla Caltrider; paternal grandparents, George and Sharon Howard; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. 

James is preceded in death by his daughter, Ayrez Jay Howard; maternal grandfather, Keith Caltrider; aunt, Teresa Howard; and uncle, Doug Howard.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at the Pioneers Pub & Grub in Casey, Iowa at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 12th, 2024, with Ben Winford, Pastor at New Life Church in Atlantic, presiding.  Burial will be held at Dalmanutha Cemetery north of Casey following the memorial service and light lunch.

Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.
