Jack Wissler

Jack Leroy Wissler, 91, of Avoca, Iowa, passed away at the Avoca Care Center on Sunday, February 23, 2025.

Jack was born October 22, 1933, in rural Lewis, Iowa, to J. Leo and Irene Maggie (Mauk) Wissler. He graduated from Menlo High School in the Class of 1951. Jack served our country in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957, and was stationed in Japan. He graduated the Iowa Highway Patrol Academy in 1959 and was assigned to District 1 in Des Moines, Iowa. On September 11, 1960, he was united in marriage to Dellene Margaret Lindblom, and they were the parents of two sons, Jeffrey and James. The family moved to Avoca, Iowa, when Jack was promoted to Sergeant in July of 1975, and assigned to District 3 in Atlantic. He retired from the Iowa State Patrol in 1989.

During his life he served on the Iowa State Policeman Association Board of Directors and the Board of Directors of the Jerry Rabner Memorial Boys Ranch in Fort Dodge. After retirement, for several years he was a retiree representative on the Iowa Department of Public Safety Police Officer’s Retirement Board in addition to working as a sales rep for Oakland Ford in Oakland, Iowa.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his horses and attending his grandsons’ athletic events.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 64 years, Dellene Wissler of Avoca; son, Jim (Lisa) Wissler of Wall Lake; grandsons, Joel (Sharday) Wissler of Carroll, Justin (Jennifer) Wissler of Waterloo and Jared (Shelby) Wissler of Walnut; and great-grandchildren Bennett, Madisyn and Lyndie Wissler.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey; his parents Leo and Irene Wissler; parents-in-law, Glen and Freda (Wedemeyer) Lindblom; and brother-in-law, Richard Lindblom.

Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, February 27th at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. A graveside service will begin at approximately 11:30 a.m., Thursday at the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita. If you wish to process with the family, we will leave the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. During the service Jack’s dedication to his country and state will be recognized with honors given by the Anita American Legion Post #210 and the Iowa State Patrol Honor Guard. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed the family for designation at a later date.
