Jack Randall

Jack Randall, 96, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Friday, January 10, 2025, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Jack Herbert was born on October 3, 1928, in Cass County, Iowa, the son of Vernon Herbert and Anna Regina (Kollekowski) Randall. After his dad’s retirement from the circus, Jack helped him to continue to care for the animals in addition to working alongside him with a home improvement business. Jack graduated from Atlantic High School in the Class of 1946.

Jack served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was assigned to the Signal Corp in addition to being a mechanic for the motor pool. Jack attained the rank of Corporal at the time of his honorable discharge.

After the military he continued the family home improvement business which consisted of painting, woodworking and wallpapering in Atlantic. He spent a few years doing contract work in Colorado; while there he met and married, Sharon Lynn Cawizel and the couple was blessed with their son, Scott. The family returned to Atlantic a short time later where he continued his skilled trade; “word of mouth” kept him busy his entire career.

Time outdoors hunting, fishing and trapping was what Jack looked forward to and a lot of these outings were memories he created with his son. A favorite trip for him was one to Colorado, trout fishing. He took pride in caring for his home and yard though at times this proved to be a challenge. Jack lived on the site of an old brick factory, one of the original buildings still standing today, and plenty of “old clunkers” were dug up unexpectedly. Jack was a past member of the Atlantic Fire Department.

Jack is survived by his son, Scott Randall of Atlantic. When Scott was asked what he will remember his Dad for he shared, “He was level headed, wise, had a good value system, was a straight shooter and was always true to his word.” Scott also shared how thankful he was for the work ethic his Dad instilled in him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Anna Randall and his siblings, Betty Jane Armentrout Thompson, Vernee Randall, John Randall and a sister in infancy.

Per Jack’s wishes cremation has taken place and a graveside service, with flag presentation by the Atlantic Color Guard, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 16th at the Atlantic Cemetery.
