Obituary for Louise Hunt

Louise Morrow Hunt, born February 23, 1921, in Atlantic, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at the age of 96. She was the daughter of Ralph Dale and Alma (Stier) Morrow. Louise graduated from Atlantic High School in 1938, Christian College (now Columbia College) in 1940, and the University of Missouri in 1942.

Louise was married September 22, 1942, to Charles Willard Hunt at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic. Because of World War II, they immediately left Atlantic for the San Francisco Bay area where Charles was stationed. Other Navy postings for Louise and Charles were in Boston, MA, Brooklyn, NY and Washington, D.C. After the war, they returned to Atlantic where Louise and Charles farmed for over 40 years.

Louise was a lifelong member of the First United Presbyterian Church, a member of the Browning Literary Club, Questers, the Original Bridge Club, and the Iowa Poetry Association. She was initiated into Chapter AF of the P.E.O. Sisterhood in 1944.

Louise loved to dance, read, travel, paint and write poetry. Lyrical Iowa honored her talents in poetry with numerous prizes and awards including the Dwight G. McCarty Award for Nature Poetry – First Place for her poem “On Selling an Horizon to Business.”

As an Atlantic resident for 96 years, Louise touched the lives of many people with her sweet smile and kind words. In her younger years, Louise was a Girl Scout and Red Cross volunteer. Later, Louise became a strong supporter of Atlantic through her involvement with Cass County Memorial Hospital, Heritage House, and the Atlantic School Foundation.

Louise is survived by her sons, Fred Hunt and his wife, Becky and Nick Hunt and his wife, Sue, all of Atlantic, IA; daughter, Deborah Hunt Repp of Perry, IA; 5 grandchildren, Chuck (Holly) Hunt of Kansas City, MO, Nathan (Erin) Hunt of West Des Moines, IA, Bethany (Jon) Redenius of Grimes, IA, Elizabeth Reid (Mike McDermott) of Atlantic, IA, and Carolyn Hunt (Ray Bruck) of Atlantic, IA; and 10 great-grandchildren, Charlie, Ava and Amelia Hunt, Morgan and Nolan Hunt, Mara and Henry Redenius, Willa and Hallie Reid, and Natalie Boose. She is also survived by her nephews, Sam (Deb) Hunt of Mason City, IA and Carl (Martha) Hunt of Moscow, ID; niece, Harriet (Mike) Fliss of Spirit Lake, IA; and 6 grand-nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles; brother-in-law, Jim Hunt and his wife, Gertrude; her parents; sister, Lorraine McAnally; nephew, Dale Gaylord; and son-in-law, Raymond L. Repp.
