Charles Willard Hunt
Charles Willard Hunt, 81, lifelong Atlantic area farmer, cattle feeder and businessman, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2002, at Heritage House in Atlantic after a long illness.The son of Fred R. and Helen (Willard) Hunt, Charles was born September 18, 1920 in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1938 and from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire in 1942. Following his graduation, Charles was inducted into the United States Naval Reserve as Ensign and Ordnance Officer. Before being sent overseas, he married Louise Morrow, also from Atlantic on September 22, 1942. During the war he was stationed in the South Pacific theater and was honorably discharged As a Lieutenant in 1946.Charles farmed with his brother James from 1947 until a stroke forced his retirement in 1977. He loved the cattle business and Atlantic. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, Pymosa Lodge # 271, Za Ga Zig Nishna Valley Shrine Post # 3415, Atlantic Rotary and Atlantic Elks Lodge # 445. He was a member of the Atlantic Golf and Country Club and served many years on its board. Charles served on the Atlantic Industrial Foundation and was a director of the original Atlantic State Bank (now Wells Fargo) for over thirty years. But perhaps the greatest achievement was his service and devotion to the Cass County Memorial Hospital. From 1964 to 1987, he served in various capacities and was instrumental in the hospital's expansion. Charles was Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 1974 to 1987.Survivors include his wife Louise; three children, Fred M. Hunt and his wife, Rebecca, of Atlantic, Deborah A. Hunt-Repp and her husband Raymond Repp of Perry, and Nicholas B. Hunt and his wife Sue of Atlantic; one brother James E. Hunt and his wife Gertrude of Atlantic; five grandchildren, Charles T. Hunt and his wife Holly of Kansas City, Missouri, Nathan A. Hunt of Atlantic and his fiancée Erin Payne of Omaha, Nebraska, Bethany A. Redenius and her husband Jonathan of Ankeny, Iowa, Elizabeth and Carolyn Hunt; two nephews; and one niece.He was preceded in death by his parents.Funeral InformationA memorial service will be held for Charles on Friday, February 15, 2002, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic at 11:00 AM following a private graveside service at the Atlantic Cemetery at 10:00 AM. Rev. Don Seeger will officiate.
