Hazel Howard

Hazel Howard 93, of Atlantic, passed away Monday, February 4, 2002, at Heritage House where she was a resident.The daughter of Ernest and Segra Marie (Brown) Odem, Hazel was born April 15, 1908 near Lorah north of Atlantic. The family moved to Lewis where she grew up and graduated from Lewis High School in 1924. She was united in marriage to Frank Oliver Howard on February 6, 1929 in Atlantic. Following marriage they lived in Lewis until 1945. She worked in the Lewis Post Office until her daughter Jeanne was born. Later she was employed by Firestone, The Vogue and Tober's in Atlantic. Hazel was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic, Cass County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and a fifty-year member of Eastern Star.Surviving are her husband Frank; two daughters, Jeanne Smith and her husband Don of Atlantic and Karen Lillie and her husband Bob of Lenexa, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Terri Kizzier and her husband Mark of Bellevue, Nebraska, Laurie Anderson and her husband Roger, Sue Hansen and her husband Bob, Connie Price and her husband Paul, all of Atlantic, John Smith and his wife Diane of Graettinger, Iowa, Beth Proctor and her husband Brad of Overland Park, Kansas, and Kristin Garcia and her husband Joe of Shawnee, Kansas; twelve great-grandchildren, Allison Anderson, Jill and Amanda Price, Danielle Hansen, Abigail and Elizabeth Kizzier, Amy, Lisa and Sandra Smith, Bailey and Brooke Proctor, Peter Joseph (PJ) Garcia; and a number of nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harley, Glen and Wilburn Odem; and one sister Goldie Marie Odem.Funeral InformationFuneral services for Hazel will be held Saturday, February 9, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic at 10:30 AM with Rev. Tompsie Smith officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery at Lewis, Iowa. There will be a visitation Friday evening, February 8, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at the Roland Funeral Home.
