Frank Howard

Frank Oliver Howard, 95, a resident of 1200 Brookridge in Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday morning August 25, 2002, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.The son of Guy and Emma (Smith) Howard, Frank was born June 13, 1907 northwest of Lewis in Cass County where he grew up and graduated in 1924 from Lewis High School where he played football. He was united in marriage to Hazel Fern Odem on February 6, 1929 in Atlantic. Following married, they lived in Lewis until 1945. Frank operated a gasoline tanker and worked for Cass County. After moving to Atlantic, he sold parts for Sothman Motor Co., worked for Nelson Automotive and was later employed part-time for Deter Motor Company. Frank was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic, the Masonic Lodge for fifty years, Eastern Star and the Lions Club. He was a golfer and loved to play pool and cards.Surviving are two daughters, Jeanne Smith and husband, Don, of Atlantic and Karen Lillie and husband, Bob, of Lenexa, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Terri Kizzier and husband, Bob, Connie Price and husband, Paul, all of Atlantic, Shawn Smith and wife, Diane, of Graettinger, Iowa, Beth Proctor and husband, Brad, of Overland Park, Kansas, and Kristin Garcia and husband, Joe of Shawnee, Kansas; 13 great-grandchildren, Allison Andersen, Jill and Amanda Price, Danielle Hansen, Abigail and Elizabeth Kizzer, Amy, Lisa and Sandra Smith, Bailey and Brooke Proctor, Peter Joseph (PJ) and Nicholas James Garcia; and a number of nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel Fern Howard, February 4, 2002; one brother Edward Howard; five sisters, Mildred Howard at age two, Minnie Murphy, Hazel Ruppel, Lois Dreager and Nellie Prall.Funeral InformationFuneral services for Frank will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Tompsie Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery at Lewis, Iowa.
