Obituary for Reverend Richard "Dick" T. Hohl

Reverend Richard “Dick” Hohl, 88, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, October 9, 2017, at Heritage House in Atlantic.

Richard Thomas Hohl was born on January 17, 1929, to William F. and Thirza (Rinker) Hohl in their home in Pottstown, PA. Dick grew up in Cedarville, Pennsylvania, and received his education at Norco High School, graduating with the class of 1946. He received further education at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, Garrett Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL, and St. Paul Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO. He was an ordained Minister of the United Methodist Church.

On August 23, 1952, he married Sara (Sally) Stein at the Searles Memorial United Methodist Church in Pottstown, PA. Dick and Sally were blessed with six children, Lonnie (Joan) Hohl of Sioux City, IA, Dawn (Rod) Foutch of Missouri Valley, IA, Penny (Mike) Ewert of Vincennes, IN, Wendy (Blair) Bellis of Morrisville, PA, and Cindy (Murray) Anderson, of Forest City, IA, and daughter-in law, Teena Hohl of Aurora, CO.

Dick and Sally began their ministry in Pennsylvania in 1955. They later moved to Iowa, where they served a number of United Methodist Churches. Dick retired from active ministry in 1991. It was at this time they moved to Atlantic, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Tom Hohl; granddaughter, Keri Hohl; mother and father-in law, Katie and George Stein; and three brothers, Ray, Alan and Frank.

Dick is survived by his wife, Sally; his five children; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brother Gene; and three sisters-in-law.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic. A time of visitation with the family will be held immediately following the service during the luncheon in the fellowship hall.

Memorials can be made to the family who will direct them to United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR).
