Obituary for
Isabel "Izy" A. Hoegh (Jacobsen)
In Memory of Isabel A. Hoegh, 90, Atlantic, Iowa
Isabel “Izy” Adeline, daughter of James C. and Meta Marie (Andersen) Jacobsen, was born June 15, 1927 in the family home in Elk Horn, Iowa. She died on April 5th, at her home in Atlantic, Iowa at the age of 90.
Isabel was baptized, confirmed and married at Elk Horn Lutheran Church. Her family moved to rural Elk Horn, and she attended Rural School Clay #6 until it closed. She continued her education at Elk Horn Public School, graduating in 1944. She attended Dana College in Blair, NE, and two summers of classes from Iowa State Teachers' College of Cedar Falls, IA. She subsequently taught 3rd and 4th grades for two years at Elk Horn Public School, followed by one year at Lincoln School in Atlantic. After her marriage, she taught one more year at Rural School Clay #7.
Isabel married Emery Leroy Hoegh on July 11, 1948. They farmed in the Atlantic and Elk Horn vicinity until 1996, when they retired to their home in Atlantic and became members at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Emery passed away on August 11, 2000.
Izy spent her life caring for her family and friends. All who knew Izy remember being entertained by her numerous stories and jokes. Izy enjoyed visiting, reading, writing letters, attending sporting events, musicals, garage sales, making yarn-covered hangers, embroidering tea towels, and being involved in many church activities. She freely shared her Christian faith and wisdom in word and deeds.

I do not know what next may
come across my pilgrim way
I do not know tomorrow’s road,
nor see beyond today.
But this I know - -
my Savior knows the path I cannot see
And I can trust His wounded hand
to guide and care for me.
I do not know what may befall
of sunshine or of rain.
I do not know what may be mine
of pleasure or of pain.
But this I know: My Savior knows,
and whatsoe’re it be
Still I can trust His love to give
what will be best for me.
I do not know what may await
or what the morrow brings.
But with the glad salute of faith,
I hail it’s opening wings.
For this I know that in my Lord
shall all my needs be met
And I can trust the heart of Him
who has not failed me yet.
