MARILYN HINSON
Marilyn Hinson of Atlantic, IA, passed away at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at the age of 86 years and 29 days.
Marilyn (Mamma) Serena Garner was born on December 14, 1925 in Covington, KY to Andrew Mack and Willis Missouri Leslie Garner. She attended school in Covington, graduating with the class of 1943 at Holmes High. On November 30, 1946, Marilyn was united in marriage to Kenneth Cramer Hinson. She was a cook at Van's Chat and Chew in Atlantic for 20 years. Marilyn enjoyed cooking and baking, playing Scrabble and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite trips were to Kentucky with her sisters for reunions with cousins at Churchill Downs where Marilyn's father won the race at the Kentucky Derby in 1934. She will always be remembered as a loving, caring person and a natural born caregiver. Marilyn was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Atlantic.
Marilyn is survived by daughters, Ann Butler and Nancy (Robert) Kelly of Atlantic, Susan Rugaard of Audubon, IA, and Sherri Rater (Darrell Bigelow) of Collinsville, OK; son, Kenny Hinson of Atlantic; grandchildren, Chris (Ann) Butler of Anita, IA, Jacque (Josh) Park of Atlantic, IA, Shane (Amy) Kelly of Norfolk, VA, Michael (Angie) Kelly and Johnie (Angie) Kelly, both of Atlantic, IA, Rhonda (Joel) DuVall, Carrie (Greg) Jensen and Andy (Laura) Rugaard, all of Audubon, IA, Karla (Rod) Crawley of Guthrie Center, IA, Tara Hinson of Omaha, NE, Tiffany Hinson and fiancé Joey McDuff of Atlantic, IA, Timothy Hinson of Omaha, NE and Kevin (Angie) Rater of Owasso, OK; 37 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sarah James of Cincinnati, OH and Billie Lou Smith of Memphis, TN, numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her special Aunt Mae; sister, Ellen Margery Garner; brother, Andrew Mack "Jim" Garner; great-grandson, Nicholas DuVall and son-in-law, Regin Rugaard.
