Obituary for George D. Heuss

George Heuss, 80, long time resident of Audubon, Iowa went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 13, 2006 at the Heritage House in Atlantic.George was born the son of Otto George and Marie Augusta (Block) Heuss on October 13, 1925 in Audubon. Marie passed away when he was eight years old, and he was later adopted by Myrtle Heuss. He grew up and was schooled in the Leroy Country School #2 there. George attended the Atlantic Gospel Chapel, where he was an elder, a lay preacher and a past Sunday school teacher. He was a past member of the Gideons. George served as a sergeant in the Army Medical Core in the South Pacific in WWII. George was married to Rosemary Parrott on March 28, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple raised four daughters and farmed in Audubon. He retired in 2004 at which time the couple moved to the Brookridge Apartments, where they lived until he suffered stroke and was admitted into the Heritage House. George accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior when he was nine years old, and his purpose in life from that day was to live a Christ centered life. His family will always remember with fondness how he faithfully asked nearly everyone he met, "Do you know the Lord?" When parting from friends and loved ones, he would say, "I'll meet you here, there, or in the air!"George is survived by his wife, Rosemary, of 57 years; four daughters, Georgia Marie Schiltz and her husband, Quentin of Champlin, MN, Bonnie Louise Klabunde and her husband, Randy of Elkhorn, NE, Angela Joy Skubal and her husband, Rick of Colorado Springs, CO and Mary Rose Nelson and her husband, Grant of Atlantic, IA; 12 grand children and 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Aston and Dorothy Elliot of California and one brother, Bob Weise of Wisconsin. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto, Marie, and Mrytle Heuss and one brother, Harley Heuss in 1948.George's family will meet with friends at a visitation on Thursday, March 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 17, at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Stefan Johnson. Following, a military committal will be presented by the Audubon American Legion Post #120 and VFW Post #4119 in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.
