Obituary for
D. Marlene Herr (Woodall)
D. Marlene Herr
Marlene Herr, 76, passed away, following a valiant battle with cancer, on Friday, September 14, 2012 at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.
Delores Marlene Woodall was born, July 12, 1936, the daughter of Michael and Gertrude (Sheumaker) Woodall, in Anita, Iowa. She attended school in Wiota, Iowa. Marlene was married to Kenneth H. Herr on September 19, 1953 in the Wiota Lutheran Church. The couple was blessed with one daughter while living south of Wiota and eventually moved to Atlantic. Kenneth passed away April 20, 2011.
Marlene was employed as a secretary for Walnut Grove for over 15 years then she worked cleaning homes and the apartments at 800 Chestnut for many years. She was a member of the Wiota Lutheran Church, served as a 4-H leader and a Sunday school teacher. Some of her favorite things were baking, telling stories, cleaning, being with family and friends, meeting new people and making friends. She had fun playing cards and dice games and going to the casino. Her family and friends will enjoy fond memories of Marlene’s cinnamon rolls; her story telling; and her fun loving nature.
She is survived by her daughter, Trudy Tish and husband, Bill; grandson, Trenton Tish; and granddaughter, Jodi Tish, all of Grinnell; her sisters, Devona Eilts of Florida and Marilyn Krueger of Arizona; and her brother, Ed Woodall and his wife, Jo Ann of Washington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents, Mike and Gertrude Woodall and step father, Dale Joyce; in-laws, Herman and Bessie Herr; two brothers-in-law, Robert Krueger and Cleo Eilts; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Marlene’s family will meet with friends at a visitation on Tuesday, September 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. There will be a grave-side service held at 10:00 a.m. in the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa on Wednesday, September 19. Pastor Ted Weishaupt of First Lutheran Church of Wiota will officiate.
Condolences may be left during open visitation Saturday, September 15 from 9:00 a.m. to noon; Sunday, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.; and Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Rolands. Marlene’s family prefers memorials—designated in Marlene’s memory.
