BARBARA MURRAY HENNINGSEN Barbara Murray Henningsen, 80, Atlantic, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009. Barbara Ruth Murray was born in Galva, Iowa, on November 20, 1928, the youngest daughter of Roy James Murray and Genevieve (Crotty) Murray. Barbara grew up on a farm in Galva where she developed a lifelong love of the farm and "scratching in the dirt&". She graduated from Sheldon High School in 1946 and attended Rosary College in Oak Park, IL, graduating from the University of Iowa in 1950 with a BA in education. After teaching in Mechanicsville, Barbara married Donald Kirk Henningsen, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Fort Dodge, Iowa on December 27, 1950. They were blessed with five children: Kathleen Henningsen, Deborah (Charles) Cassel, Kirk (Lisa) Henningsen, Mark (Janet) Henningsen, and Joseph (Joanne) Henninsen. There are fourteen grand children: Tressa English, Michael (and wife, Ashley), Shannon, Owen, and Anne Cassel, Shamonie, Jordan and Ryan Henningsen, Jacob, Alice, and David Henningsen, and Connor, Garrett, and Meghan Henningsen. Barbara was a devoted mother and homemaker and was an active member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic parish, serving as a catechism teacher for many years and more recently as a lector and a member of her beloved "Renew&" group. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Duke Schatz, and a brother-in-law, Donald Leighton. Those left to honor her memory besides her husband and children are her sister, Isabel Leighton, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2009, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Atlantic, Iowa, with Rev. Dan Siepker as celebrant. Burial will follow the Mass at Atlantic Cemetary. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7 PM Sunday at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, beginning with a Rosary. The family asks that memorial gifts be directed to SS.
