Julia Christina Harter (Jipsen)
Julia Christina Harter, age 95, died August 29, 2004, at her son's home in Corning, Iowa.
Julia was born May 22, 1909 to Blanche Rousseau and John Bernard Jipsen, Sr. in Atlantic, Iowa. She graduated from Atlantic High School in 1926. Julia married Arlie B. Harter on January 19, 1929. The resided on farms northeast of Atlantic during their 55 years of marriage.
Julia taught in Benton Township, Wiota and Atlantic schools for 28 years. She retired in 1972. During her teaching career, she attended Drake University for advancement in education curriculum.
She is survived by her son, Gary Harter and Eva Breakenridge of Corning; daughter, Gloria Devereaux and husband, Chuck, of Council Bluffs, IA; six grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters-in-law, Lola Mae Jipsen of Elkhorn, IA and Lucille Harter of Orient, IA; and a brother-in-law, Ray Hansen of Atlantic.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arlie, in 1984; and a son, James Stanley Harter in 1929; four sisters and two brothers.
Memorials may be donated to the Wiota Methodist Church and Alegent Health Family Homecare, Corning, Iowa Hospice.
