James Edward Harris
James "Jim&" Edward Harris, 66, of Atlantic, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital.The son of George Leo and Marie Edna (Berry) Harris, Jim was born May 2, 1934, in Atlantic where he grew up and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1953. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict and also served in the National Guard for four years. He was united in marriage to Kay Kipp on August 31, 1956, at the Methodist Church in Griswold. Following marriage they farmed and later Jim was employed by the Iowa State Liquor Commission and Cass County maintenance. In recent years he delivered the Atlantic news telegraph to rural areas. Jim was a former 4-H leader in which he and his wife started the 4-H Canine Program. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #445 and a lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 3415.Surviving are his wife, Kay Harris; three sons, Kipp Harris and his wife, Lori, of Atlantic, Kelly Harris and his wife, Deb, of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Kory Harris and his wife, Teresa, of Atlantic; one daughter, Lori Harris of Atlantic; six grandchildren, Nick and Haley Harris, Brian and Jeff Harris, Heather and Kody Harris; one sister, Jerry Highley of Oklahoma City; three nieces, Kim Highley and Tami Gaston of Oklahoma City and Shannon Mayes of Dallas, Texas; one cousin, J.O. Berry and his wife, Verdean, of Atlantic.He was preceded in death by his parents.Funeral InformationServices for Jim were held Friday, April 27, 2001, at 1:30 PM at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with Reverend Charles J. Downing of the First United Methodist Church officiating.A military graveside service was held at the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa conducted by the Atlantic Veterans Color Guard.
