RUSSELL D. HANSENRussell D. Hansen 76, longtime resident of Wiota, Iowa, following a brief illness, passed away on May 29, 2008 at his daughter"s home, surrounded by his family, in Le Mars, Iowa.Russell Duane Hansen, was born the son of George and Louise Hansen, on November 23, 1931. He was raised on the family farm north of Atlantic and attended country school through the eighth grade. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. He married Delores Ann Hansen on May 29, 1955. They raised seven children. Following marriage, they resided in Casey, Kimballton, Audubon, and Fontanelle before moving to Wiota in 1977. Russell worked at several mechanic jobs through the years and was self employed as a mechanic, welder and photographer. His hobbies included shopping for farm machinery, attending auctions, inventing new gadgets and making his own unique farm equipment and lively political debates. The family took many memorable vacations to several National and State parks over the years. He would say his accomplishments were his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his quick wit and humor.Russell is survived by three sons; Pastor Bradley E. Hansen and his wife Marie of Bussey, IA, Russell K. Hansen and wife Diane of Atlantic, IA, Jonathan O. Hansen and wife Brandi of Wiota, IA; three daughters; Kerry E. Brown of Portland, OR, Karla A. Prichard of LeMars, IA, Jennifer R. Adams and husband Dan of Cabot, AK; twenty seven grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; one brother Roger Hansen and wife Mardell of Elk Horn, IA and a sister Inez Sexton of Indianapolis, IN.He was preceded in death by his wife Delores; his parents; six siblings, Florence Behnken, Imogene Castle, Ralph Hansen, Maurice Hansen, LeRoy Hansen, and Merlin Hansen; two sons, Lynn Eric Hansen (in infancy, 1967) and Karl K Hansen and one granddaughter Julie Marie Hansen (in infancy, 1982).Funeral InformationServices for Russell will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul"s Lutheran Church in Atlantic with Pastor Dennis Meyer officiating. An open visitation will be held at the Roland Funeral Home with the family meeting with friends on Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery with the Atlantic Color Guard presenting military honors.
