Raymond Carl Hansen
Raymond Carl Hansen of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in Atlantic, at the age of 93.
Raymond was born to Charles Carl and Krestine Marie Andersen Hansen on February 25, 1918 in Kimballton, Iowa. He attended school at the Sharon Township Country School until the 8th grade. Raymond was employed as a brick layer, janitor at the Cass County Memorial Hospital and the YMCA, and as caretaker for Hitchcock House in Lewis, Iowa. His primary occupation was farming. Raymond was married to Viola M. Jessen in 1951 He was then married to Dessie Pearl Harter in 1963. Dessie passed away in 1998. He lived all his life in Atlantic or Lewis. Raymond was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic. He collected old license plates and enjoyed playing cards, traveling, spending time at the senior citizen center but most of all, he enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Raymond was known as a very hard worker, taking pride in whatever job he was doing and as a loving family man. His memorable vacations were a trip to Denmark with a daughter and granddaughter and an Alaskan cruise with Jerald Hansen and Gwen Johnston.
Surviving Raymond is a son, Raymond Hansen, Jr. in Minneapolis, MN; daughters, Linda (Dennis) Berge, Michelle Hadley and Lisa Hansen, all of Atlantic; step-children, Charles (Linda) South of Lewis, IA, Janice (Charles) Namanny, Fred Berge and Carol Wright (partner Kim Thompson), all of Atlantic; twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Krestine Hansen; wife, Dessie Hansen; son, Elmer Carl Hansen; brother, Harry Hansen; step-grandsons, Brian Wright and Chadwick Thompson; step-great grandson, Brent Woolsey; nephews, Bobby and Christopher Hansen; niece, Kathy Hansen; son-in-law, Peter Hadley, Sr; and step-daughter-in-law, Jane Berge.
There will be an open visitation at the Roland Funeral Home on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 3 and 4, from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm with a visitation with the family from 5:00 to 7:00 on Wednesday, January 4. Services for Raymond will be held on Thursday, January 5, at the Zion Lutheran Church at 10:00 in the morning with Pastor Ken Davidson officiating. Committal will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
