Donald Ray Hall
Donald Ray Hall, age 90, of Wiota, Iowa, was called home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 29, 2008. Donald was born November 6, 1917, to John Willis and Mabel (Culver) Hall in Clay Center, Nebraska, where he attended school, graduating from high school in 1935. On November 24, 1937, he married Hazel Behnken. Donald and Hazel started farming in 1938 in Cass County, Iowa, where they resided their entire life. Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel, of 69 years in December of 2006. Donald loved the Lord and was an active member of the First Lutheran Church of Wiota where he held several offices and served on numerous committees. Many lives were touched through his hobbies and projects including his song writing and publishing his book "A Long Way Home&". His pride and joy was his steam engine replica that he built and entered in many parades in Iowa and Nebraska. He performed magic shows and gave talks for various organizations. Donald"s home on the farm was a fun gathering place for family and friends where he made everyone feel welcome. He will be greatly missed but long remembered as a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Donald is survived by three children, Marian Mattheis and husband Phil of Des Moines, Dennis Hall of Urbandale, and Karen Hargin of Altoona,; eight grandchildren, Pam Higgins, John Mattheis, Deb Hartman, Clay Hall, Kelly Steinkamp, Chad Hargin, Jessi Brown and Josh Hargin; and seventeen great-grandchildren, Nicole and Justin Higgins, Andrew, Samantha, Kelly and Jason Hartman, Adam Snyder, Carly Daughenbaugh, Megan and Cody Hall, Megan, Emily and Cody Hargin, Bailey and Presley Brown; Kaden and Laney Hargin.Funeral InformationServices for Donald will be held Friday, August 1, 2008, at 10:00 AM at the First Lutheran Church of Wiota with Pastor Ted Weishaupt officiating. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Wiota, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening, July 31, from 7:00 t0 8:00 at the Roland Funeral Home.
