Obituary for
Victor B. Gubbels
Victor Bernard Gubbels, age 82, a long-time resident of Atlantic, passed away at the Heritage House on Sunday, November 7, 2004. Victor was born November 9, 1921, to William Hubert and Louisa Mary (Horn) Gubbels near Persia, IA. At a young age, Victor moved to Atlantic with his family where he graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1940. Victor went to work as a contractor and woodworker for Voss Cabinet Making in 1940. On November 5, 1942, Victor enlisted in the Army at Camp Dodge and served in the 2nd armored division in WWII. He was a Tech V when he was discharged from the Army. On August 16, 1958, Victor was married to Louise K. (Scarlett) Henderson at the S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic. In 1965 Victor became self-employed until his retirement in 1990. Victor was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Victor is survived by two daughters, Victoria Behrends and husband Todd of Clive, IA; Judith (Jody) Talarico Kunze and husband Calvin; four grandsons, Nicholas and Nathan Behrends, Stephen V. Talarico and wife Michelle of Lincoln, NE, and Francesco (Cody) Talarico and wife Jennifer of Bellevue, NE.
