Obituary for Lawrence "Larry" Greufe

Lawrence James Greufe of Atlantic passed away on October 13, 2016, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A Celebration of Larry's life will be held at 1:00 PM, November 12, 2016, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Williams, IA.

Larry was born in Iowa Falls, IA, on September 24, 1950, to Vernon and Bobbi (Bullis) Greufe. Larry graduated from Northeast Hamilton High School and Iowa State University. He continued his educational pursuits at Hawkeye Tech where he studied photography and at Iowa Western Community College, studying Aviation Mechanics.

Establishing his home in Atlantic, he served on the police reserves, was a telephone technician, a manager at K-mart, and operations manager at ANYTIME Fitness. Larry also worked at After Five Somewhere. Utilizing his powered parachute, he incorporated his love of photography and flying to start his own aerial photography business. His knowledge and love of his community led him to run for city council. Larry loved to read and the Atlantic Public Library was one of his favorite places to frequent. He also loved meeting new people and enjoyed attending the Garden Market every Thursday evening.

Larry was a proud father to his son Justin Eibes of Menomonie, WI and grandfather to A. J. and Anna. Following his retirement, he combined the health benefits of walking with the joy found
talking with friends and acquaintances he encountered each day. Larry relished spending time with his family at reunions and holidays.

Those left to cherish memories of his life include his son and grandchildren; siblings, Marcia (Denny) Ehn, Pomeroy, IA, Wayne (Janet) Greufe, Blairsburg, IA, Jolene (Tony) Kellner, Atlanta, GA, Deann Greufe, San Diego, CA, Angela Merceri, Atlanta, GA, Paul (Tara) Greufe, Davenport, IA, and Karen (Michael) Muilenburg, Indianapolis, IN; extended family and many good friends.
