Velma Mae Gray
Velma Mae Gray, 80, of Plano, Texas and former resident of Atlantic, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2001, at IHS Treemond Hospital in Dallas, Texas.The daughter of Stonewall and Hattie Mae (Holt) Bishop, Velma was born August 8, 1920 in Sedalia, Missouri where she grew up and graduated from Hubbard High School. Her marriage to Lewis Tennis Gray took place July 16, 1941 in Sedalia. Velma worked as a nursing assistant in the veterans hospital for 15 years.Surviving are six daughters, Violet Jackson and her husband, Thurman, of Moreno Valley, California, Janice Josey and her husband, Guy, of Silver Spring, Maryland, Connie, Nancy and Shirley Gray of Plano, Texas, and Crystal Smith and her husband, Bob, of Hemet, California; one son, Dale Lewis Gray and his wife, Chong A., of Edgewood, Maryland; seven grandchildren, Ginger Jackson, Greg Josey, Jr., Derrick Josey, Brandie and Ryan Gray, and Victoria and Ashley Smith; two great-grandchildren, Trevon Johnson and Tatiano Roberts; three sisters, Bettie James of Kansas City, Missouri, Helen Walker of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Julia Bell of Denver, Colorado; one brother, Stonewall Bishop of Denver, Colorado; a cousin, Willie Spires of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and a number of nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and four sisters, Mary Sue Bishop, Charlotte Brown and two at a young age.Roland Funeral Service -- Atlantic, IowaFuneral InformationServices for Velma were held Saturday, August 11, 2001, at 11:00AM at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa with Pastor Terry Schoenfeld of the Evangelical Free Church officiating.
