Jack L. Glissmann, 77, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, December 12, 2018.
Jack Lee Glissmann was born August 24, 1941, to John “Jack” Fred and Bertha Bridgette (Roder) Glissmann in Atlantic. He was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church. During his childhood, Jack spent a lot of time at the roller-skating rink with his friends and cousins. Jack attended school in Atlantic, then worked for Turk Roofing and Lenny Jave Construction. He retired from Atlantic Municipal Utilities after more than 30 years of employment.
He was married to Carolyn Symonds; his sons Ryan and Rod were born to this union. He later married Fran Peterson, November 18, 1981. Jack and Fran traveled to California and Colorado, and took many pictures along the way. They enjoyed working in his wood shop (children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends have some of his work) and making their home and yard beautiful.
Jack was an avid hunter and gun collector, and also collected John Wayne memorabilia. One of the highlights of his life was meeting Roy Rogers. He was a long-time member of the NRA and the Elks Lodge in Atlantic.
He is survived by his wife, Fran of Atlantic; sons, Ryan (Lori) Glissmann and Rod (Tracy) Glissmann; step-daughter, Vicky (Max) Davis; grandchildren, John (Tiphani) Glissmann, Robert (Cassie) Glissmann, Meghan (Clayton) Dorsey, Jarrod (Randi) Glissmann, Scott Glissmann, Brett Glissmann, Robert (Heather) Ponsar, Eric (Jerrica) Collins, Angela (Jesse) Kuschel, Chandra Collins; great grandchildren, Parker, Hayden, Connor, Bennett, Braylee, Rylan, Kirra, Ashten, Reid, Hayden, Abi, Autumn, Erica, Jacob, Maddy, Tyler, Hannah, Clara, Elliot, and Audrey; great-great granddaughter, Finn; his sister, Norma Christensen; sister-in-law, Willa Petersen; special nephew, Gary Christensen; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
