JACK BYRON GAYLORD Jack Byron Gaylord, 87, life long resident of Atlantic, Iowa passed away on Monday, May 26, 2008 at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in Atlantic. Jack Byron Gaylord was born in Atlantic, Iowa on September 22, 1920, the son of Byron and Hazel (Marie) Gaylord. He grew up in Atlantic and graduated with the Atlantic High School Class of 1939. He was married to Ethel "Lois&" Weicker on December 17, 1955 in Atlantic. The couple was blessed with a daughter. Jack had his own delivery service for groceries and miscellaneous other items and owned a sanitation business; worked for Colonial Bread and Schwans; and finally worked for W&S for 25 years. Jack was personable and his family will remember how friendly he was. "Everywhere we went, everyone would strike up a conversation about how they knew our dad/granddad.&" He enjoyed coffee nearly everyday at The Downtowner. He is survived by his wife Lois; his daughter Kellie Sorensen of Atlantic; his three granddaughters, Kimberly Meurer and husband Mike of Atlantic, Jennifer Sorensen and Sam Huffman of Atlantic and Angela Sorensen of Atlantic; five great grandchildren: Bethaney, Alex and Curtis Meurer, Mariah and Hailey Huffman; nieces and nephews: Gary Gaylord, Maggie Becker and husband Jim and Family, Kathy Kuster and husband JD and family, Chuck Gaylord and family, Bill Gaylord, Jim Gaylord and his wife Pam and family; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother William Gaylord and wife Phyllis; a son-in-law, Mike Sorensen, and a niece, Linda, in infancy.Funeral InformationHis funeral will be held at 1:30 on Friday at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Pastor Mitch Holmes of the Rolling Hills Baptist Church in Anita will officiate. The interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic.
