Gail Morse, 82, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Atlantic Specialty Care.
Born July 8, 1939, in the Sioux City, Iowa, family home, Gail E. Morse was the daughter of Robert Swan and Bethine (Miller) Morse. After graduation from Central High, she attended Morningside College with the help of her older sister, Mary. Becoming a teacher of English, she taught in Sioux City for two years, then Indianola, Iowa, four years, before coming to Atlantic in 1967; this provided real variety with 9-10th grade classes. She taught many courses within the department; covering English, reading and writing. In 1989, she was asked to take the school year book, The Javelin and later the school newspaper, The Needle. Gail retired in 1996, after 48 years in education. In 2008, she established the Gail E. Morse Scholarship.
Over her adulthood, interests in creative serving continued to develop. The early 80’s saw her pick up an actual sewing needle to start quilting and she soon got her mother started in the craft. Since retiring in 1996, she did sub often at schools, especially in the library and EOC classes. All the while, she continued to quilt – which became a huge activity for her with over 400 projects completed and usually given away.
Gail is survived by sisters, Kay Justad-Saffon of Woodlake, CA and Mary Baer of Beresford, SD; brother, Jan (Diane) Morse of Noblesville, IN; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert in 1983 and Bethine in 1989 and also her brother, Marshall in 2005.
Open visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Friday, February 11, 2022, at Roland Funeral Home.
A private burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa.
