Florence B.e. Freese
Florence B. E. Freese died Monday, March 3, 2003, at the Heritage House where she was a resident.The daughter of George Henry and Katherine Melbrech Frey, she was born August 31, 1904 in Odebolt, IA. She graduated from the Odebolt High School and from Iowa State University with a teaching degree. She was a home economics teacher and also taught math and history. She taught in Battle Creek, Maxwell, Cambridge, Huxley, Slater and Ames schools. Her marriage to Otto Freese took place May 25, 1927 in Storm Lake. They celebrated their 70th Anniversary together May 25, 1997. Mrs. Freese was a 50 year member of Eastern star and a long time member of TTT, White Shrine, and the Elks Lodge. Florence and Otto lived in Clearwater, Florida for 23 years after their retirement. In 1989 they moved to Atlantic and resided at the Heritage House.Surviving are one son, Eugène Freese and wife Carole of Atlantic; a daughter in-law, Sally Jones of Fort Madison; four grandchildren, Kathy Freese of Des Moines; Deb Braverman and husband Mike of Des Moines; Steve Freese and wife Karen of Burlington; and Dawna Menke and husband Pat of Rockford, Illinois; four great-grandchildren, Ann and Sarah Braverman of Des Moines; Mackenzie and Dalton Menke of Rockford, IL; a sister-in-law, Florence Bye of Odebolt; a brother-in-law, W.H. Stone of Des Moines; and a number of nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Otto; a son Donald Edward Freese; two sisters, Ann Wessels and Georgia Stone; and two brothers Tom and Bill Frey.The family has suggested that memorials be given to the Good Samaritan Fund at the Heritage House in Atlantic.Funeral InformationA memorial service for Florence will be held on Saturday, March 8, at 11:30 a.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic with Reverend Don Seeger officiating. Interment will be in the Richland Cemetery north of Odebolt, IA.
