Edward John Freese
Well-known retired teacher and coach, Edward John Freese, 80, a resident of 104 East 22nd St Atlantic, Iowa passed away Friday, May 9, 2003 at his home.The son of William John and Frieda Hermine (Euken) Freese, he was born May 10, 1922 on the family farm in Union Township and graduated from Wiota High School in 1940. He attended Simpson College in Indianola for three years and entered the United States Army in 1945 and served in South Korea. He graduated from Simpson College in 1948. Ed was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and Atlantic Golf and Country Club. He was an outstanding athlete and was honored in 1978 by being named into the Simpson College Basketball Hall of Fame. Ed's working career began in Greenfield, Iowa as a coach and teacher. Upon moving to Atlantic he continued his working and coaching career. For many years Ed taught drivers education amusing his family and friends with stories of his pupils' driving abilities. Walnut Grove was his last-place of employment working there for 26 years.Ed was married to Beverly Girard on December 26, 1948 in Des Moines and they moved to Atlantic in 1949. He is survived by a son, Kent Freese from Durango, Colorado; a daughter, Barb Lattyak and husband, Bernie, from Danville, Illinois; two grandchildren, Dree and Jake Lattyak; a brother, Bill Freese and wife, Sherry, of Davenport, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.The loves of Ed's life were his family, friends, church, golfing and fishing. With Ed, no one was a stranger. He will be remembered as an all-around good guy, loved by his family and many friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beverly; and a sister, Marge Robinson.Roland Funeral Service Atlantic, IowaFuneral InformationServices for Ed will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Allen D.
