Obituary for
Elberta Frank
ELBERTA ELSIE FRANKElberta Elsie Frank, 90, longtime resident of Atlantic, passed away at the Cass County Memorial Hospital on Saturday, September 20, 2008. She was born in Cass County Iowa on November 18, 1917 to parents, Emma (Scherrinsky) Prall and Robert M. Prall. She attended a one room country school with her brother, Robert W. and sister, Betty in Union township. As a young woman she worked as a waitress and did house cleaning before she met and married Daniel J. Frank on August 31, 1938. To this union on Christmas Day, 1941 a daughter, Joan was born. Elberta was a strong little lady as she cooked the holiday dinner for her parents and her husband"s parents that day, then saw her great desire come true, when she gave birth to their daughter on Christmas just before midnight. Elberta lived her entire life in Cass County with the exception of one summer when she traveled with her daughter to Olympia, Washington to be with her husband while he was in the Army. After the war she and her husband owned and lived on a farm north of Lyman, Iowa until 1960 when they moved to Atlantic. She worked in housekeeping at the old Atlantic hospital, then in later years cleaned homes and nurtured a number of people in Atlantic. In October, 1990 Dan passed away and she continued to live in her home until 2008. Her greatest love was her family and she leaves behind a daughter, Joan Brink and husband, Gerald Brink. Elberta always said Gerald was the son she never gave birth to, but she loved him like her own child. She was overjoyed when she became a grandmother to Scott Brink and her love flowed forth when Barbara Cook Brink became a part of the family and then on to a great grandchild, Shae Brink. Elberta had many friends and took pleasure in writing letters to them who lived far away. Florence Campbell was a very special friend for many years, helping her and spending time together. Special nieces, Dorothy Petersen, Glenda Andrew, Judy Elwood, Patti Zimmerman & Sandi Easter were a big part of her life also as were nephews, Nic Zimmerman, David Elwood, and Lanny Harris and numerous nieces & nephews. She enjoyed people and was a very social person, baking cookies and giving them away. One Christmas, when she was well into her 80"s, she baked over 50 dozen, giving them to friends, neighbors, relatives and the postman. Animals were loved by Elberta; and her last little dog, Pepper was a loving companion to her. Birds and squirrels were constantly at her feeders and the joy she derived from watching them was a pleasure to see. She always did the best with what she had and gave thanks to the Lord for all things. She had a great love for the Lord and readily shared her testimony. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Frank, parents Emma & Robert M. Prall, brother Robert W. Prall & wife Daraline, sister Betty Frizzell and husband, Lyle Frizzell. Father-in-law & Mother-in-law, John & Elizabeth Frank, Brothers-in-law, Floyd & Calvin Frank, Brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law Glen & Esther Frank, Viola & Edwin Meyer, George & Marie Frank, Bertha & John Martens & Vera & Roy McFadden.Funeral InformationThere will be open visitation and Elberta"s family will meet with friends at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 23, one hour before a 2:00 P.M. funeral service at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.
