Ruth Fowble

Ruth Fowble, 94, formerly of Atlantic, Iowa, died Saturday, November 7, 2020, at the Community Care Center in Stuart.

Ruth Arlene was born on January 21, 1926, south of Glidden, Carroll County, Iowa, one of eight children, four girls and four boys, born to Columbus Budd and Zeola (Van Hoozer) Britt. She attended a one room schoolhouse through eighth grade and when the family moved to Audubon County, she attended Viola Center High School. Ruth graduated in the Class of 1944.

In June of 1944, she was united in marriage to Charles Griffith and the couple was blessed with two children, Connie and Roger. She later married Junior W. Fowble in October of 1950, and they were blessed with a son, Dennis. The couple lived in Atlantic and she worked at Atlantic Publisher News and Gregerson Pharmacy. They moved to Newton, Iowa, in 1966, where she worked at Maytag. Ruth was a supervisor and inspector; retiring in 1988 after 21 years. On October 27, 2010, tragedy struck and she lost her son, Dennis to lung cancer; Ruth struggled with his death in the years to follow.

Ruth was an avid puzzler and looked forward to getting together with family for a game of cards. When the family gathered there was never a shortage of laughter; she always loved a good joke. Ruth looked forward to going for a ride around the countryside with no particular destination in mind. She enjoyed trips to the farm in the spring to see the baby calves.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Connie (Ron) Partlow; son, Roger (Marge) Griffith; five grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Irene Rydl of Anita; brother-in-law, Bill Reicks; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Junior; son, Dennis Fowble; great-granddaughter, Kate Griffith; and siblings, Aus Britt, Art Britt, Ethel Clark, Wayne Britt, Gertie Kisling, Ed Britt and JoAnn Reicks.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 13, 2020, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation to the Audubon and Stuart Fire Departments.
