Floyd Knop, 96, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Floyd Emil Knop was born on March 12, 1929, to Emil John and Vina L. (Feldman) Knop. He grew up on a farms in Southwest, Iowa with his two sisters, Darlene and Maxine, and brother, Dwayne. He attended grade school in Hancock, Iowa, and quickly learned to help his father on a full-time basis after the 8th grade. From that time on, Floyd was a dedicated farmer who built a business on strength and determination.

On December 31, 1955, he was united in marriage to Doreen Brockman. Together they would raise three children, occasionally travel throughout the country on tour buses, attend card club with dear friends, and participate in saddle club. They would often attend livestock auctions in Red Oak, Avoca, Denison, Dunlap and other popular auction houses in Southwest, Iowa. Floyd especially enjoyed traveling with Doreen to antique auctions after checking his livestock on his four-wheeler or taking the family on a last-minute picnic.

After receiving awards for Livestock/Forage Production in 2010, Floyd become one of the first organic farmers before it was called organic farming. Having also managed a successful Century Farm for decades, where his hobby was his work, Floyd would often say his greatest treasure was always his family.

Floyd is survived by his three children: Larry (Lois) Knop of Hancock and their children, Troy, Derek, Brock and Keith (Rachel); Pam (Neal) Schirm of Walnut and their children, Heather (Lenny), Mindy (Jordan) and Tyler (Ashley); and Scott (Cindy) Knop of Walnut and their children, Kylee (Justin) Britnee (Jamie), and Garret (Danielle); and many beloved great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Floyd is preceded in death by his wife, Doreen; parents, Emil and Vina; mother and father in law, Theodore “Ted” and Edith Brockman, brother, Dwayne (Rose) Knop; sisters, Darlene (Frank) Edmundson and Maxine Knop; brother’s-in-law, Bud (Pat) Brockman and Darwin Brockman.

Open public visitation with no family present will be from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, July 13th at Roland Funeral Service in Atlantic. Funeral services will be held the next morning at 10:30 a.m. at Roland Funeral Service followed by burial at the Atlantic Cemetery. Casey Pelzer from United Methodist Church in Cumberland will be presiding over the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for later designation to the Pottawattamie County Fair.
