Ray E. Euken
RAY EUKEN
Ray Euken, 88, a lifelong resident of the Cumberland area, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015, at the Heritage House in Atlantic.
The son of Edward Herman and Marie Caroline Eilts Euken, he was born February 12, 1927, in Franklin Township, rural Wiota. He graduated from Wiota High School in 1944; remaining on the family farm that he eventually took full responsibility for. Ray was united in marriage to Ardath Lorene Roesky, September 21, 1950, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Omaha.
Ray loved to tinker and fix things around the farm. He liked to say he "Raised Kids, Corn and Cattle." His calling was to the land and he never retired, "just got tired." He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, south of Wiota, and served as a deacon and on the church and cemetery boards. He was also involved in Men's Club; was a 4-H Leader; and part of the Cass County Fair Board.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ardath; three sons, Roger (Rita) Euken of Cumberland, Randy (Jill) Euken of Lewis and Russ (Jolene) Euken of Clear Lake; six grandchildren, Eric (Stacie) Euken of Wiota, Carrie (Matt) Ohms of Anita, Bret (Katie) Euken of Chasta, MN, Michelle Euken of Atlantic, Alec Euken of Ames and Marne Euken of Clear Lake; five great grandchildren, Leah Ohms, Eden Ohms, Colby Euken, Mollie Euken and Claire Euken; sisters-in-law, Lucille Hoyt of Athens, GA, Norma Laird of Riverside, CA, Joyce Schulke of Naperville, IL, Nadine Rives of Omaha; and many cousins.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Cliff Walstrom; nephew, Doug Walstrom; four brothers-in-law, Melvin Hoyt, Ed Laird, Aaron Rives and Kenneth Schulke; sister-in-law, Inez Roesky; and granddaughter, Melissa Euken at age 15.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015, eleven o'clock a.m., at First Lutheran Church, south of Wiota with Pastor Ted Weishaupt officiating. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery.
Family will meet friends and relatives at First Lutheran Church, south of Wiota, one hour prior to service time.
