Gail Erickson

Gail Erickson, 80, longtime resident of Griswold, died on Saturday morning, August 13, 2005, at the Osceola Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Osceola, Iowa.Gail was born April 28, 1925, the son of Lloyd E. and Rose (Johnson) Erickson, south of Cumberland, Iowa. He attended country school in Edna Township. On May 20, 1950 Gail was united in marriage to Marjorie Mullins. Gail lived many years in Cumberland and then located south of Griswold for thirty years. He was a laborer and a truck driver and was an outdoors man, enjoying fishing, walking, hunting and camping. Gail will be remembered especially for his friendship with his old red dog, "Coony Woony". The two were very close, even to the point, Coony stayed faithfully by his master, when Gail was hurt in the field one day, and spent a considerable length of time beside him until help arrived. Gail is survived by a sister, Maudelene Carlson of Clarinda, Iowa and three sisters-in-law, Helen Erickson, Larie Erickson and Alberta Erickson, all of Cumberland, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and his close friend, Ruby Andersen of Atlantic. Gail was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Cecil Erickson, in 2003, Clair Erickson, in 1977, Wayne Erickson, in 1997 and Don Erickson; his brother-in-law, Le Roy Carlson and a sister-in-law, Emma Lou Erickson. A service has been set for 10:00 am. Wednesday, August 17 at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa. Pastor B.J. Hart will officiate and the committal will be held at the Whipple Cemetery, northwest of Griswold, Iowa.
