Obituary for Robert Dean Elwood

ROBERT DEAN ELWOOD Robert Dean Elwood, a resident of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, on August 11, 2010, at the age of 72. Robert was born to George William and Hattie Louise (Brown) Elwood on November 19, 1937, on the "plow in the tree" farm south of Exira, Iowa. He attended school in Atlantic graduating in the class of 1956. In 1960, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until 1962. He was in Berlin, Germany during the Berlin wall crisis and the events of check point Charlie. After returning from the service, Robert became a construction worker and a crane operator for A.M. Cohron and Son, Inc. and Allied Engineering of Atlantic and Central Paving of Indianola. He is survived by one sister Reeva Novak of Elverta, CA and many nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, George and Hattie Elwood; two brothers, Howard and Laverne "Ted&" Elwood and two sisters, Helen Wiemann and Doris Wheatley.Funeral Information There will be open visitation on Thursday, August 12, from 8:00 A.M. until the visitation with the family Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. A graveside service will be held for Robert on Friday morning, August 13, at 11:00 A.M. at the Atlantic Cemetery.
